NEW FROM PEW RESEARCH CENTER
A new Pew Research Center survey of American adolescents ages 13 to 17 finds that religion is a regular part of the school day for a lot of them, though many others rarely observe religious behavior at school and a majority say they rarely or never discuss religion with friends.

The survey also asked teens about what religion-related things they do during the school day and found that about a quarter of teens who identify with a religion and attend public school (26%) say they regularly pray before eating lunch at school.

The new survey report is accompanied by an essay that summarizes the history of litigation over religion in schools.
