Latest abortion scandal: HSE confirms abortion performing GPs given no training in pregnancy counselling ()

In a written reply to a Parliamentary Question (PQ), the HSE has confirmed that GPs who carry out abortions receive no specialised training in unplanned pregnancy counselling. GPs as a group perform the vast majority of abortions taking place under the new law.

The only training it appears they receive when they sign up to be part of Ireland’s abortion regime is how to carry out abortions. It is a scandal and utter betrayal of women and their unborn babies that those who parade themselves as the guardians of best practice operate a system where all roads lead to abortion.

What about all the women who are conflicted about whether to proceed with an abortion and are referred to GPs who have zero expertise in pregnancy counselling or in discussing positive alternatives to abortion? What about all the women who on account of not receiving proper counselling go through with the abortion and subsequently regret the decision?

In reply to the Parliamentary Question submitted by Deputy Sean Canney TD on whether abortion performing GPs receive specialised training in pregnancy counselling, the HSE said: “Specialised training in counselling is not a requirement as counselling for women is not mandatory under the Act.”

Micheál Martin and Leo Varadkar promised voters before the abortion referendum in 2018 that in the event of abortion being introduced, it would be “safe, legal and rare.” Within a year of the new law coming into effect, there was a 60% increase in the number of abortions taking place.

It’s clear that those charged with overseeing Ireland’s abortion regime are hardened campaigners who have no interest in ensuring that women are presented with all the facts before going down the road of abortion.

With each passing day, new information is coming to light on how the new law operates. Thanks to Deputy Canney, as a result of his hard and diligent work, more important information has been unearthed this week.

Students for Life posted an excellent new video yesterday on Facebook challenging the Irish Government over its “timid and weak” response to the cultural genocide, forced abortions and sterilisations being carried by Chinese authorities against the Uyghur people in the Xinjiang region. It’s a short but really well produced and informative video.

Young woman dies in Argentina after taking legal abortion pill ()

A young woman has died in Argentina after taking a legal abortion pill. The tragic death occurred less than four months after Argentina’s new law legalising abortion came into effect.

According to the Argentine newspaper Clarín, the 23-year-old woman took the abortion pill on April 7 and soon afterwards began to feel unwell.

Dr Luis Durand, an Argentine surgeon, told a local newspaper that abortion “is not a medical act, regardless of whether it’s legal or not.”

Referring to the tragic death of the young woman and her unborn baby, Guadalupe Batallán, a pro-life leader in Argentina said: “She had her whole life in front of her. She had a legal abortion on Wednesday and by the weekend she was already dead. If [she] had died from a clandestine (illegal at the time) abortion, feminists would be tearing the whole city apart, but since [she] died from a legal abortion and that doesn’t suit (their cause), it’s scrubbed,” she concluded.
Latvian Parliament votes against Euthanasia ()

The Latvian Parliament has voted down a petition that called for the legalisation of euthanasia.

The parliament voted 49 to 38 against legalising euthanasia after a citizens’ initiative submitted 10,000 signatures in support of assisted suicide/euthanasia.

During the debate, Dr Vitālijs Orlovs (member of parliament) said: “I understand what the initiative is about, but I was taught to fight for patients’ lives to the end. I cannot imagine injecting a person with some substance to help them die — not for any amount of money.” Several members of parliament also availed of the opportunity during the debate to discuss improving end of life care more generally for Latvians.

The result in Latvia should give hope to other countries including Ireland.

Applications are OPEN for the 6th Future Leaders Programme, designed for the next generation of pro-life leaders.

It's a two-month course that will equip delegates with the skills and motivation to promote the pro-life vision in the public square.

The course takes place online for 8 weeks, starting Tuesday 4th May, and will be delivered by Irish and international experts.

Participants on the programme will have an opportunity to network with other young people and develop skills in advocacy, campaign management and project planning.

Internships run for one-week periods and are suitable for second level (Transition year or older) and third level students.

Each intern will do 4 hours supervised work each day and will be working on areas such as social media, contact with members of the movement nationwide, project planning and contributing to support work for women and their babies.

Internships are not paid, however expenses will be covered.
