Political polarization is on the rise.

A recent study revealed that less than five percent of incumbent state lawmakers who appeared on general election ballots in 2020 lost, but there’s been a spike in competitive GOP primaries. Our read is that there've been more hyper-partisan candidates competing to take office but much less competition when it comes to general elections.

NYT: Yet while incumbents were becoming safer in general elections, they were more vulnerable in primaries than in any year since 2012... a sign of the increasing polarization of American politics, particularly in the Republican Party

If we can achieve fair maps, we can have fair and competitive elections that would help decrease political polarization in our country. We are working all across the country to end map manipulation, to ban partisan congressional gerrymandering, and to help lower the political temperature in our politics. Will you chip in right now to support our work?

When incumbent legislators across the country feel extremely vulnerable in their primary races but relatively safe during their general elections, we have a major problem on our hands.

We cannot live in a country where hyper-partisan candidates are practically promised the keys to office in the general election if they win a primary. We need to fight for fair electoral districts that don’t cater to hyper-partisan candidates but instead give all voters a chance to make their voices heard!

Political polarization is plaguing our politics. It’s stopping progress on key issues a majority of voters actually care about, too. Ending gerrymandering would force lawmakers to listen to all their constituents -- not just the ones that already agree with them.
