Hi there,
Even though COVID-19 may still be with us for some time, there are still many ways to participate in the 51st anniversary of Earth Day coming up — both online and outdoors.
Here are four ideas from Conservation Voters of PA on how to safely celebrate Earth Day next week and throughout the year:
- Attend an Earth Day event hosted by your local nature center.
Several environmental organizations working across the Delaware River Basin are celebrating Earth Day by hosting educational webinars, socially distanced river cleanups, tree plantings, and so much more! Visit this page to see a list of recommended events taking place this week and next.
- Visit one of Pennsylvania’s extraordinary state parks.
One way to celebrate Earth Day is by getting outside and enjoying the natural world, either solo or with loved ones! Experiencing fresh air and sunshine are more important than ever, and Pennsylvania has many open protected natural areas where you can do just that. Find a state park near you here on the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ website.
- Join us for a webinar next week on Pennsylvania’s water quality.
Everyone throughout the state deserves clean water — it’s our constitutional right! But too often our resources are depleted, polluted and desecrated in the name of profit. Join us Wednesday, April 21 with legislators from across the state to learn more about the challenges facing our drinking water and rivers and streams, and what we can do to help ensure clean water for everyone. Sign up here to get the link and call-in information to join us.
- Become a conservation voter.
Whether it’s healthy communities, clean water, or money for scientific research, our elected officials at every level have power over important issues that affect our daily lives. That’s why one of the most important things you can do this Earth Day is to register to vote in this year’s primary and general elections. Your ability to vote has the potential to bring about substantive change in protecting our natural resources and addressing the climate crisis. But it can only happen if you vote, so make sure you’re registered to do so by visiting this page. If you’re already registered and would like to vote by mail this year, you can sign up to receive a mail-in ballot here.
2021 is a crucial year for us to come together for the future health of our planet and generations to come, and we’ll continue to keep you posted on ways you can take action and help.
Wishing you a happy and healthy Earth Day,
Eva Piatek
