The wait continues, friend.

Canadians have been waiting for a long time for a serious plan from the Conservative Party to address the existential threat and economic opportunity of climate change – and Erin O’Toole’s announcement today only shows the wait will go on.

Just three weekends ago, O’Toole’s Conservatives voted to deny that climate change is real – and to win himself the leadership of his party, Mr. O’Toole consistently pledged to make pollution free again.

Today, he released a short pamphlet about a Conservative carbon tax that actually cuts less pollution, costs Canadians more, and cuts the Climate Action Incentive rebates that make life more affordable for Canadian families. As Jonathan Wilkinson said today, the Conservatives are proposing a new version of ‘petro points’ – the more you burn, the more you earn.

The fact is, after doing virtually nothing to fight climate change under Stephen Harper (including with Erin O’Toole in his Cabinet), and after denying that climate change is real only a few weeks ago, Canadians can’t trust that the Conservative Party will do any of what they are saying in this pamphlet – and it wouldn’t come close to getting the job done even if they did.

Erin O’Toole has already shown that he’s willing to say different things to different people at different times if he thinks it will help him get ahead, but this challenge can’t wait for Conservative politicians to catch up.

That’s why Justin Trudeau and the Liberal government are moving forward with a strengthened climate plan for a healthy environment and a healthy economy. It’s a real plan that accelerates our progress to fight climate change and create good new jobs, and it puts more money directly in the pockets of Canadians families. That’s also why we’re investing in better public transit, making electric vehicles more affordable, taking action to protect our oceans and coasts, moving forward to ban harmful single-use plastics, and so much more.

As always, friend, all of our progress counts on your support to make it possible – and on climate action, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Canadians.

If you’re able, chip in now to send Erin O’Toole’s Conservatives a message that we need real climate action now, and support our work together to keep Canada moving forward.
