Although the details of this Associated Press story are quite sad, it was positively refreshing to read on Tuesday the AP acknowledge the disaster at the border and correctly attribute its cause. The article quotes Sister Norma Pimentel, executive director of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley in Texas:

"'I think that it's simply that the traffickers use whatever is happening in the United States to extort the families, to lure them, to create a narrative that says, 'Come right now. The president is going to let you in.'"

The article tells the story of Edgar Mejia, who told the Associated Press that he used his 3-year-old son "like a passport to get here... I am here because of him." Mejia seems to understand that no matter what, the United States won't remove him or his son. And his actions suggest he's quite confident that he'll be able to eventually bring his wife and older children.

Mejia is not alone. The Associated Press reports that nearly every one of the dozens of would-be illegal aliens they interviewed said that Pres. Biden's policies influenced their decision to risk the perilous journey north, and put the lives of their own children in danger as pawns.

No, the president has not declared open borders in so many words... but his policies clearly encourage massive waves of illegal immigration. In March, more people were caught entering America illegally than at any time in the past 15 years! Here's why Biden's policies are encouraging more illegal immigration:

President Biden is refusing to prosecute illegal aliens who pay cartels to smuggle children into the US. He is dismantling our enforcement systems.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement is so handicapped that despite the surge in illegal immigration, it has made 75% fewer priority arrests than last year.

And he's promised a massive amnesty for just about anyone who already has entered illegally, without proposing any way of preventing people from fraudulently asserting they qualify.

On top of these terrible administration decisions, Democratic Congressional leaders are pondering how they can sneak two amnesties into other legislation, such as the upcoming infrastructure bill. They want to do that so only 50 votes would be needed to pass them. We cannot let that happen!
