Lisa Anderson |  Director of Young Adults

A week ago I was in Washington D.C. where for the first time I toured the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. It’s a sobering trip through a dark chapter in history, and the experience is weirdly enhanced by aesthetics of mostly concrete and steel, then fittingly capped off with frigid indoor temperatures (I wondered if they deliberately crank up the A/C?). I expected to be distraught walking through the exhibits, and I was. But I was surprised by how much I learned. Not just about the Holocaust, but about World Wars 1 and 2, Hitler, Europe and European power and politics at the time, etc. It made me want to dig a bit more into history, which is always instructive and interesting. On this week’s show, we address somewhat humorously the things we wished we’d spent more time on in school; history is one such subject for me. That’s cool; it’s still there for me to go back to.
