As the first out-and-seated transgender state legislator in the country, I know what it’s like being the only person who’s like me in every room I enter in Richmond. The thing is, Del. Ayala’s different too and she wears the empathy she’s learned from it on her sleeve.

As a multi-racial single mom who relied on Medicaid while working as a gas station attendant to now being a cybersecurity expert running for statewide office, she has a unique lived experience that I know will serve her and us well.

I've seen Del. Ayala's relentless hustle on the doors during the 2017 and 2019 campaigns. I've seen her heart on display on the floor of the House of Delegates as she helped lead the fight for Virginia to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. And together, we've celebrated victory after victory on so many issues important to our constituents in Prince William County and the whole commonwealth of Virginia.
