Indivisibles,
Today is (usually) Tax Day -- don’t worry, filing deadlines have been
extended this year -- and it’s got us thinking about the phrase that’s
printed on license plates all across the District of Columbia: "Taxation
Without Representation."
It’s a phrase with a long history in what’s now the United States, and
it’s sadly still relevant today for hundreds of thousands of people.
Washington, D.C.’s lack of voting representation of Congress
disenfranchises over 700,000 people -- a majority of whom are people of
color.^1
D.C. statehood isn’t the only major democracy issue up for discussion
right now: with markups on the For the People Act and the John Lewis
Voting Rights Act coming up, plus ongoing debates about the filibuster,
it'll be a busy few weeks making sure our democracy works for the many,
not the few.
That’s why we’re spending over $700,000 on our For the People Project to
remake our democracy. We’re constantly updating call scripts, creating new
merch (get your own 51-star flag [ [link removed] ]here!), placing newspaper and digital
ads, and more to build pressure on members of Congress for D.C. statehood
and all our top democracy reform priorities.
All that work takes resources -- and we rely on grassroots support to make
it possible. [ [link removed] ]Click here to donate $10 to fund our ads, calling tools,
web resources, and everything else it’ll take to make D.C. a state and
enable our progressive policy goals.

week and every week. If you haven’t yet called your representative to
support D.C. statehood (or you want to do it again!), [ [link removed] ]click here to
connect today. Every action you take, whether it’s donating to support our
resources, making a call, recording a video, or something else, makes a
difference. We’re proud to be fighting for justice and representation
alongside you.
In solidarity,
Indivisible Team
