Last week, with the blessing of Far-Right Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, the Republican-controlled Texas Senate voted to advance Senate Bill 7. If this bill passes it will be yet another horrendous GOP attack on voting rights.

Many are referring to this legislation as “Jim Crow 2.0” because of its blatant targeting of Black and Brown voters. 

Here’s what this awful law does to Texas’ voters: 

• Takes away local governments’ power to expand voting rights;
• Restricts the number of voting machines available at countrywide polling sites;
• Puts strict limits on extended early voting hours;
• Prohibits drive-thru voting;
• Allows partisan poll watchers to record voters who need help with ballot
• Forbids local election officials from encouraging voters to fill out mail ballot applications
