Dear John,
Last week, I was honored to accompany Honduran trade unionist Ahrax Mayorga to the Iowa People's Presidential Forum, held in partnership with The Guardian. At this five-hour event, low-income workers, immigrants, and grassroots leaders spoke with Elizabeth Warren, Julián Castro, Bernie Sanders, and Pete Buttigieg about important community issues from immigration to climate justice to workers’ rights, and more. The Nation called it ”2020’s most in-depth, grassroots-focused forum.”
Addressing Bernie Sanders on stage in front of a crowd of 2,000, Ahrax (middle) and I, as the interpreter, (left) spoke about the impact of US foreign policy on the Honduran people, and detailed abuses by the billion-dollar fruit company Fyffes – the target of our current campaign.
Watch the video here for our conversation with Sen. Sanders, and skip to 3:13:45 to see our speech on the effects of US foreign policy in Honduras (which received two standing ovations):
It is with your support that we can continue to bring the voices of Central American farmworkers directly to policy-makers, the media, and U.S. activists. Will you please make a contribution today?
I am proud to be building on the legacy of the U.S. Labor Education in the Americas Program (USLEAP), which since 1987 has defended workers’ rights to organize and decried violence against trade unionists. Ever since USLEAP joined ILRF in 2013, the program has relied on individual donors for 90% of its funding. In fact, this is the only program at ILRF that is primarily sustained by individual donors.
If we can reach our goal of raising an additional $25,000 this fall – which would increase the USLEAP budget by 50% – we will be able to bring a high-profile Congressional delegation to Honduras to meet with the melon workers and to help shine a light on the egregious violations they are facing.
Please help us build upon our current campaign momentum by making a generous donation today.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Adelante,
Gabby Rosazza
USLEAP Program Coordinator
P.S. By becoming a monthly donor, you will help us have the ongoing support we need to sustain this campaign. To give $5, $10, $25 or more per month, please sign up here.
