John, the New York Democratic Party Chair issued an unhinged statement earlier today showing just how afraid the establishment is of Rana Abdelhamid’s campaign for Congress.
Jay Jacobs, a prominent ally of Andrew Cuomo, claimed that Rana’s primary challenge “isn’t about progressive causes.” Really, Jay? Every primary we endorse in is about electing working-class progressives who will LEAD on positive, transformative change for communities who’ve been ignored for far too long.
This primary is about Rana, a new leader who will fight for Medicare for All and a Green New Deal and doesn’t take corporate PAC money vs. Rep. Maloney, a wealthy, 28-year incumbent who has taken millions from Wall Street and real estate developers, and hasn’t led on economic or racial justice.
The statement from the New York Democrats rambled on with derision towards Justice Democrats and things like socialism and defunding the police. It sounded like a Republican had written it, frankly.
Rana noticed that too. Here’s how she responded on Twitter:

Rana is ready to take on the Democratic establishment, win this primary, and go to Congress to fight for our country’s working people. Again, we say this loudly: this primary is about progressive causes, and it’s about electing someone who will lead us towards economic, social, racial, and environmental justice. Rana will do that. Rep. Maloney simply hasn’t done it in 28 years in Congress.
Thank you so much for your support,
Justice Democrats
P.S. We need to help Rana build her campaign to compete with the powerful corporate interests that want to preserve the status quo. Grassroots donations today will show the Democratic establishment that this challenge is serious. Can you help Rana start strong today as well with a contribution? $10, $27, or anything at all will go a long way.
Do not worry if you cannot afford to make a contribution — we understand that this is a difficult time. If you’re struggling, you can find a food bank here.
