Today, as Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, we’ve moved forward with H.R. 40 to call for a commission to study and develop proposals for reparations for slavery.
Redlining, mass incarceration, voter suppression, disinvestment in education, systemic discrimination in the workplace, police brutality, and open violence have all led to a situation of massive inequality and systemic racism that threatens our survival as a democracy.
Moving forward starts with acknowledging the injustice and failures of the past.
