Dear Friend,
One of the first acts of the Trump administration was to sign an Executive Order that banned foreign nationals from seven predominantly Muslim countries from visiting the country. This became known as the "Muslim Ban", as the former president made it quite clear what his intentions were during the campaign. Our coalition stood against this act of religious discrimination from the very beginning. Even in 2018, when the Supreme Court issued a 5-4 decision upholding the legality of the ban in a ruling, we said the ruling “legitimized bigotry and threatened the rights of all Americans.”
Now, Congress is taking action to ensure this does not happen again. The NO BAN Act, which was 'marked up' today, gets us one step closer to making that reality.
This bill would prevent the government from denying a person entry into the U.S. based on their religion and includes explicit protections for the nonreligious. More than 150 lawmakers have already signed on as co-sponsors of the bill. This legislation is building momentum and we need your help for that to continue.
