Dear NRDC Activist,
President Biden went to Pittsburgh earlier this month to lay out his vision to create millions of jobs, make our communities more resilient, and confront the worsening climate crisis by speeding up a just transition to a clean energy future.
"In wedding equitable recovery to the strongest package of U.S. climate action ever, Biden unveiled a grand strategy to advance the progress we need with the urgency and scale the task demands," NRDC's Alex Adams wrote in the New York Daily News.
NRDC experts dug into Biden's American Jobs Plan to find out what this historic proposal will mean for the nation.
Here's some of what they had to say:
- On Equity and Jobs: "The American Jobs Plan prioritizes addressing long-standing inequities that have systematically excluded and harmed generations of Black, brown, indigenous, and low-income people. It targets 40 percent of the benefits of climate and clean infrastructure investments to disadvantaged communities." – Stephanie Gidigbi-Jenkins Read more >>
- On Climate Resilience: "The American Jobs Plan specifically states, 'Every dollar spent on rebuilding our infrastructure during the Biden administration will be used to prevent, reduce, and withstand the impacts of the climate crisis.' That's exciting to hear, and feasible." – Rob Moore Read more >>
- On Clean Energy: "[Biden's vision] includes modernizing our electric transmission system and driving faster growth in clean sources of electricity. These investments will tackle climate pollution, lower energy bills, improve air quality, and create jobs." – Yvonne McIntyre, Grant Carlisle, and Jackie Wong Read more >>
- On Clean Water: "It would fund strong measures to protect millions of Americans from water contaminated by lead, other toxic chemicals, and pathogens. Among the most significant water proposals in the Biden plan is to dig up and replace all 6 to 10 million lead service lines." – Erik D. Olson Read more >>
- On Transportation: "The American Jobs Plan includes $85 billion over eight years in transit service and an unprecedented $80 billion investment in intercity rail. The plan delivers a bold vision for our country, addressing the challenges of our past and making a bold investment in our future while creating millions of good jobs." – Deron Lovaas Read more >>
- On Housing: "The plan prioritizes investment in affordable, safe, and efficient homes and businesses, powered by reliable, clean energy. Addressing the efficiency, resilience, and quality of our homes and buildings is crucial to meeting the nation's climate goals and ensuring equitable living conditions." – Lauren Urbanek and Khalil Shahyd Read more >>
As President Biden's first 100 days come to a close at the end of this month, we reflect on all that he has accomplished since Inauguration Day — and what it will take to put those plans into practice.
It's now up to Congress to pass a strong recovery package that will help create jobs, combat climate change, protect our health and environment, spur economic recovery in the wake of the pandemic, and build an equitable clean energy future for all.
With pro-environment majorities in both houses of Congress, we have a narrow, critical window to make that happen — and we need to fight with everything we've got. NRDC Action Fund supporters like you are pushing Congress to pass this essential legislation — and you can be sure we'll be counting on you to raise your voices again and again until this package is passed.
Thank you for fighting alongside us to usher in a new era of clean energy progress in Washington and across the country — together, I know we can win.
Sincerely,

Mitch Bernard
President, NRDC Action Fund
