This week, the U.S. House will vote on the Paycheck Fairness Act. Proponents argue it will prevent unfair workplace discrimination and help close the wage gap, but that’s not what this bill would do. Instead it: 
  • creates more red tape that limit women’s opportunities
  • discourages workplace flexibility, as well as the hiring and promotion of women
  • encourages frivolous lawsuits, particularly class action lawsuits that enrich lawyers, but don't help workers or lead to real justice

Big Labor Efforts Threaten Choices and Freedoms for Working Women

One year into the global pandemic, service industry workers’ ongoing hardship exposes economic disparities in our labor force. The pandemic significantly erased women’s gains in the labor force. Some 2.3 million women dropped out of the workforce since the start of the pandemic—including 1.5 million mothers of school-aged children. Lawmakers should not take that choice away by enacting changes to labor laws. Not every woman wants or can hold down a traditional job.
