John — Through all the partisanship in Washington, there is one major environmental initiative that has had overwhelming bipartisan support:
Saving the Everglades.
The Everglades is home to dozens of endangered or threatened species, provides drinking water to one-third of Floridians, and supports countless unique flora and fauna. But the Everglades suffered from environmentally thoughtless development in the 1960s that cut off the flow of water in the Everglades and damaged this ecosystem.
So, over 20 years ago, a $7.8 billion program was embarked on to save America’s greatest subtropical wilderness. According to the plan, water that had been piped away for new development — which nearly killed the wetlands — would be rerouted and the Everglades would get first dibs.
But Congress never paid its fair share of the project. And now there are two pressing projects that could be pivotal in restoring the Everglades. SEEC members will fight to get natural treasures like the Everglades the funding they need. Will you pitch in a donation to join their fight? [[link removed]]

The two vital projects include a 10,000-acre reservoir south of Lake Okeechobee that will store and treat water before moving it downstream, and a culvert under the Tamiami Trail highway to allow water to continue flowing naturally.
SEEC members have been in the fight for the Everglades for the long haul. In fact, SEEC member Rep. Quigley led a SEEC delegation to the Everglades to see it firsthand.

Public opinion polling shows widespread support in Florida for the Everglades. And it’s no surprise! Besides being a natural wonder, the wetlands also provide for countless jobs and bring valuable eco-tourism revenue to the state.
With President Biden in the White House, we now have a real chance to get the funding for critical projects that will save the Everglades. But it could still be a tough fight in Congress, and our SEEC members need your help. Will you pitch in a donation to support our SEEC coalition fighting to save the Everglades in the House?
