I'm excited to share another update we've just made to the Verifier, our one-of-a-kind tool that tracks voting equipment across the U.S.

Dear John,

The data team at Verified Voting never takes a break. We are constantly collecting new information about voting equipment procurements to keep the Verifier up-to-date — especially the equipment upgrades happening right now in the critical time before the next elections. I’m happy to share that our 2022 voting equipment map is now available here ([link removed]) !

Our new 2022 map includes the same visualizations as the previous cycles, including poll books, polling place equipment, accessible equipment, and voting equipment manufacturers. In particular, we’re monitoring the states that still use insecure voting systems (called DREs) that record votes directly to computer memory. Check out the “At A Glance” toolbar on the 2022 voting equipment map, and then click back to 2020 on the timeline. You’ll see from our “At A Glance” toolbar that the number of DREs in use is slowly decreasing; however, there are still states that field DREs, most of which are paperless. Our entire team is focused on advising jurisdictions to upgrade to more secure voter-marked paper ballot systems. We’ll be updating this map through November 2022, so keep checking back regularly to see how the landscape is changing.

Coming Soon: US Territories

Sneak Peek: U.S. Territories

In our next update, we’ll share how we’re working to include the U.S. Territories on the voting equipment map. We’re also working behind the scenes on our search and mobile features, so you can continue to use the Verifier when you’re on-the-go.

We put a lot of hard work into building the Verifier, but keeping it maintained with the most up-to-date and accurate information is an ongoing project that requires making phone calls to election officials, monitoring local news stories, and examining certification documents. We make this data available to you without subscription fees because we know that fact-based accessible information is more important now than ever, but sustained funding is needed for us to maintain our tools and to keep making improvements so that voters, election officials, and those who inform the public have the accurate, nonpartisan information they need. Please consider a monthly contribution ([link removed]) to support this ongoing work — or whatever you can give ([link removed]) — today.

With thanks,
Megan Maier, Senior Research Associate
