Dear John,

Today we are thrilled to announce your first candidates of 2021: Briana Sewell and Joshua Cole in Virginia! We are back for another high-stakes election year in Virginia, this time to protect the Democrats' fragile majority in the House of Delegates. Read on to learn more about your candidates, and find out what you can do to help right now.

MEET BRIANA SEWELL
Born and raised in Prince William County, Briana is the daughter of high school sweethearts from Selma, Alabama, who met while serving in the United States Air Force.
Briana has been listening to and advocating for the people’s concerns for her entire professional life – first as a longtime community organizer and now as Chief of Staff to the County Chair.

MEET JOSHUA COLE
In 2017, Joshua Cole proudly ran for the Virginia House of Delegates, becoming the first African-American and youngest person to receive any party’s nomination. In a hard-fought race, Joshua finished less than 100 votes shy. Sister District supported him in 2019, and this time he won – becoming one of the youngest members elected to the Virginia General Assembly. Joshua has lived in Fredericksburg and Stafford County his entire life, and currently serves as an Associate Pastor at Union Bell Baptist Church in South Stafford and the Chairman of the House of Clergy for the Union of Charismatic Orthodox Churches.

WHY VIRGINIA IS IMPORTANT

This is a banner general election year in Virginia, with a competitive gubernatorial race and a fragile blue majority in the House of Delegates at stake. While Democrats have made thrilling gains in the Commonwealth with Medicaid expansion, ratifying the ERA, and repealing the death penalty, we must protect and expand the majority in order to pass critical progressive legislation including banning assault rifles, raising the minimum wage, and recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.

WHAT CAN I DO RIGHT NOW?

  1. Make a donation of $20.21 (or more if you can!). Your donation will go directly to your candidates, and split equally to help them build winning campaigns. Opponents are often funded by just a few big donors, so let’s show them some grassroots love!
  2. Spread the word! Help others learn about your candidates on social media.  Please follow your candidates, and check out the shareable graphics you can use to help promote them on our candidate pages.
  3. If you’re curious about helping us organize this great team, there’s a role that will work for you – please reply to this email!

WHAT’S NEXT?
Stay tuned for invitations to take action to help our candidates! We’d love for you to join us for candidate meet & greets and other great fundraising events, as well as voter contact activities like phonebanking, postcarding, and textbanking.

Excited to help these great candidates with you!
Thank you!
