| Support Transit Lanes on 1 California and 28 19 Ave |
| | Next Tuesday, April 20th, the SFMTA Board of Directors is voting on two Temporary Emergency Transit Lanes projects. - Temporary high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes on Park Presidio and Lombard along the 28 route. This is an innovative partnership with Caltrans to provide transit priority on our city streets that also happen to be state highways. The current proposal allows private vehicles with two or more occupants to use these lanes, which will likely help but doesn’t go far enough. Given ride hails with one passenger will qualify (which cause much of our traffic), we are asking for a minimum of 3 occupants in private vehicles.
- Temporary Emergency Transit Lanes on the 1 California. Based on community outreach, these lanes have been adjusted in terms of what hours they’re enforced. We think this is an important start but want to see a fuller project as downtown traffic returns.
We need your support for these transit priority projects! There is a petition out against the improvements for the 1 California, and we've heard pushback as well on the HOV lanes. People are concerned about losing parking spaces and about making traffic congestion worse - but the only way to solve traffic congestion is to give people a real alternative to cars! Sign up below so we can coordinate with full information, talking points, and timing. The meeting begins at 1:00pm. We don’t know what time these items will come up, but will be watching and can let you know. |

| Matching Donor: Donald Robertson |
| Donald Robertson is a long-time SFTR member who's been very generous with his support, making our work possible. This Membership Month he's prepared to make a matching gift to double your membership! Donald comes to his love of public transit from experience. In his words, "I don't drive for multiple reasons: I was in a serious accident when I was very young; I went to secondary school in Wales and London, they learned to drive older than we do, and by the time I returned to the States I had learned to love the non-driving lifestyle. I'm a city boy and you can't experience a city from a car." |
|
|
| Why does he think it's so important to support our work? "Somebody needs to advocate for Muni, especially now that we finally have a Muni leader who cares. The leadership of SFTR is passionate, knowledgeable, and dedicated to achiving goals that are economically and politically realistic, e.g., 30x30." Join Donald today to keep us advocating for awesome Muni service! |
