On Sunday, Daunte Wright was shot and killed [[link removed]] by Brooklyn Center, MN police. Minutes before, Daunte called his mother, fearing for his life after being pulled over for a traffic stop.

Daunte was murdered ten miles from where George Floyd was murdered less than a year ago. Both Daunte and George’s murders were emboldened by white supremacy, and they were criminalized simply because they were Black.

Daunte should be alive—his son should have a father, and his family and community should not be enduring the profound grief of losing him.

Police violence is gun violence, and the movement to end gun violence will not succeed if it does not prioritize and commit to ending state-sanctioned violence against people of color. Our movement will not succeed if it does not acknolwedge and work to destroy the white supremacist systems that permit police to take Black lives with impunity.

Daunte’s life mattered.

Black Lives Matter.

We stand with Daunte’s family and community in demanding justice for his murder, and call on leaders to take action to end police gun violence.

Here are ways to help his family right now .
