Women's March

CW: This email discusses police violence.

John,

On Sunday night, a police officer fatally shot a young Black man, Daunte Wright, during a traffic stop outside of Minneapolis — just minutes from where George Floyd was murdered by police less than one year ago.

Duante should be alive today. But instead, his death at the hands of law enforcement has ripped open unhealed wounds, and caused even more trauma to the Black community in Minneapolis and across our entire country.

Today, we at Women's March are renewing our commitment to protecting Black lives, defunding the police, and funding life-saving health and safety services. This was not an isolated incident, and the resignation of this single officer will not solve this problem. This was a predictable facet of an inherently broken system — an entire system rooted in violence and white supremacy.

We must fight for Black lives and root out white supremacy whenever and wherever we see it. That means we must organize, mobilize in the streets and online, and invest in organizations that have made grassroots racial and gender justice their focus. That is why today, Women's March is calling on all of our members to rush an important gift split between our organizing work to protect Black lives and House of GG, an organization based in Little Rock, Arkansas, focused on nurturing the lives and leadership of Black transgender women and women of color living in the Deep South.

Rush an urgent donation to be split between our organizing work to support Black lives and House of GG, an organization centered on advocating for trans women of color. House of GG is a small organization that operates on limited funding, so any amount you can give will make a tremendous difference in their work. Split a donation →

House of GG is the first educational and historical center solely dedicated to transgender and gender nonconforming people in the country. Recently founded as a long-term dream of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy — a survivor of the historic Stonewall Riots, longtime Black organizer, elder, and mentor of the Black liberation and gender justice movements — House of GG creates programs, services, and resources that protect the lives, history, and visibility of transgender women, especially Black trans women and women of color. The refuge, resources, and life-saving services House of GG provides are essential, so we hope you'll donate to support them today.

The work that House of GG is leading reminds us that the fight for racial justice is ongoing, intersectional, and more urgent than ever before. That’s why over the past year, Women's March has:

Investing in protecting Black lives is a feminist issue. By putting resources in education, health care, child care, and decarceration – not into a violent police system – we can support women and families and begin to address systemic inequalities and the legacy of racism.

There has never been a more urgent time for Women's Marchers to renew our commitment to fighting for racial justice. Please support our work to root out white supremacy by splitting a donation between Women’s March's organizing work for Black lives and House of GG today. 50 percent of the total proceeds raised today will be donated directly by Women's March to House of GG.

There is no possibility of a feminist future without justice for Black lives. Keep fighting.

Women’s March

P.S. It's never been more clear: We must defund the police. Additionally, we must focus our efforts on investing in the kinds of intersectional racial justice organizing work that nurtures the lives and leadership of the most marginalized communities among us, including Black trans women and women of color. Please split a donation between Women's March and House of GG today to directly power that work.
