The Supreme Court has been consistently ruling in favor of religious groups who don't want to follow COVID restrictions -- and, frankly, this trend has me worried about what “religious freedom” will mean in our country going forward.
Even more troubling, the Supreme Court's conservative majority ruled that the Trump administration could allow employers to deny contraception coverage to female workers. And they ruled that certain employment discrimination laws don't apply to teachers at religious schools.
Not only that, but Fulton v. Philadelphia, a case on whether religious organizations can forbid LGBTQ+ foster parents, is set to be decided this year. If the Court's recent rulings say anything, they might open the door for major rollbacks of LGBTQ+ rights.
That's why I re-introduced the Do No Harm Act in this session of Congress, which, if passed, would make it clear in our laws that religious freedom is not an excuse to discriminate against LGBTQ+ Americans, minority groups, or anyone at all.
