Arizona Republic | Millions of VA appointments were canceled as COVID-19 grew. That’s a recipe for disaster
At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the VA sent mixed messages about suspending community care referrals, leaving many veterans without access to timely appointments.
The VA also canceled more than 7 million appointments between March 15 and May 1, 2020, as the pandemic grew. A report from the VA Office of Inspector General found that 2.3 million of those appointments had no indication of follow-up tracking.
So, there is really no way to know if those appointments for primary care, mental health care and specialty care were ever rescheduled or referred out to community care. |
