LP correctly identified the song of the Chipping Sparrow (Spizella passerina). They can be commonly seen and heard in most neighborhoods. To identify a ‘Chippie’ by sight look for its bright rufous-colored cap. Its song resembles the cadence of a sewing machine. An early migrant, their arrival is a sure sign that spring has sprung!
