For more than a decade, EDF has worked with rural communities in
India to promote cleaner energy solutions and sustainable
development.
It's a big part of our climate work designed to help the
world's second most populous country address development and
poverty issues while minimizing greenhouse gas emissions and
delivering social, health and environmental gains.
And this week, we are honored to be one of 23 organizations that are
part of Indiaspora's ChaloGive campaign - an effort to
inspire the Indian diaspora here in the U.S. make donations to
organizations working on the ground in India. The campaign is timed to
be part of the Gandhi Jayanti national festival, which is celebrated
in India to mark Mahatma Gandhi's birthday, October 2.
While the ChaloGive campaign is focused on engaging Indian American audiences, you can support our work in India today with a donation to EDF.

With 1.3 billion people, India ranks only behind China in population
- and is projected to eclipse China in the next 10 years. The
Indian economy is one of the fastest growing and now stands as the
fifth-largest in the world. Unfortunately, climate pollution is also
growing and India is now the third-largest carbon emitter, behind only
China and the United States.
That is why our work with rural communities in India is so important.
In partnership with local groups, we are helping to:
* Install household and community biogas units to power
clean-burning methane stoves;
* Replace conventional wood-burning stoves with more efficient
ones;
* Provide solar-powered lighting; and
* Promote scientifically and economically sound, climate-smart farming techniques via smart-phone apps and other technology platforms.
EDF has also added a second pillar to our work in India -
tackling air pollution. EDF is working with India's National
Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) on a first of its
kind database of Indian studies on air pollution. The database is
designed to be accessible to the media, the public, and the Indian
government so that it can drive a local narrative that accentuates
"made-in-India" clean air solutions and the air quality
benefits of low-carbon growth.
The climate crisis is a global problem and requires global solutions.
Our work in India is an important part of our mission to slash climate
pollution and unleash a clean energy future.
Please support this work with a donation today.
