Friend,

Police violence is endemic in America. The examples keep piling up: George Floyd, Donovon Lynch, and Lt. Caron Nazario. Daunte Wright was shot and killed by the police in Minnesota yesterday. I am distraught—but not surprised.
We must act. I am sick and tired of hearing feeble calls for small tweaks like more training or individual terminations. That’s why I’ve come out with policy proposals to tackle the systemic problem of police brutality. My plan includes:
Reassigning duties like routine traffic stops, assisting the unhoused, and mental health crisis intervention to civil servants that aren’t the police.
Defelonizing all drugs, so that we can treat addiction and drug dependence as public health crises instead of criminal matters that require police intervention.
Ending Qualified Immunity for police officers so Virginia’s law enforcement can be held accountable for their misconduct.
Empowering local Civilian Review Boards to guide local law enforcement policy and issue subpoenas.
Investing in mental health, housing, and education rather than jails, prisons, and police.
Rejecting calls for more funding for local police departments as a part of police reform efforts.
Last summer we marched, demonstrated, and raised our voices together to demand that our society value Black lives. We reshaped the conversation around policing and systemic racism, and we made a permanent change to the culture of our nation. Now we must take the next step to ensure that tangible policies are enacted that can finally put a stop to the violence.
We can take that next step by electing public officials who understand these problems inside and out. I have experience as a racial justice advocate, lawyer, and congressional investigator working to hold our government accountable for misconduct. I am the candidate that meets this moment.
If you’d like to contribute to my campaign for Lt. Governor so that I can bring my advocacy and experience fighting for police and criminal justice reforms to the second highest office in Virginia, you can donate here. [link removed] [[link removed]]
