November Lobby Day registration closing Oct. 20
CCL’s annual November Lobby Day takes place on Nov. 11 and 12 this year in Washington, D.C. For those whose schedules allow, this is a great opportunity to receive more training as a climate advocate and to lobby on Capitol Hill for the Energy Innovation Act. Be sure to register before the deadline: 5 p.m. ET on October 20.
If you can’t attend, remember that each local meeting, tabling event, letter to the editor and social media post helps pave the way for productive lobby meetings in D.C. You can even support from home by participating in Tweet Congress Day on Nov. 12. Other news this week: Grant from Rick Steves: CCE is receiving a $50k grant from Rick Steves’ Europe as part of their “Climate Smart Commitment.” Read more. Regional conference in Boulder: 185 attendees had a wonderful conference at the Mountain West (formerly Wild West) regional conference last weekend. 60 attended the Climate Advocate Training workshop, including students all the way from Arizona. Media: LTE urges member of Congress to act
One of CCL’s monthly actions for September was to write letters to the editor. John Smillie from Crawfordsville, Indiana, is one volunteer to successfully publish a letter in his local paper. His letter reads, in part, “We need to take action, and one powerful step we can take is already in front of the U.S. House of Representatives - the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (H.R. 763). I urge my congressperson, Representative Jim Baird (IN-4), to support this crucial bill.” You can read John’s full letter here. CCL volunteers are regularly activating the “five levers” of political will in their communities. To talk with other CCLers about their media work and get advice or ideas for your own, head to the “Working with the Media” forum on CCL Community.
