In July 2008, Bishop Joaquina Filipe Nhanala made history by becoming the first woman elected to the United Methodist episcopacy in Africa. In honor of Women’s History Month, Nhanala reflects on United Methodism in Mozambique — its challenges and achievements — and how she has managed the crises that confront her episcopal area today. The Rev. João Sambo has the story at [link removed] [link removed].
Vaccinated at Church
United Methodist churches across Missouri continue to serve as vaccination sites. St. James UMC in Kansas City has partnered with Samuel U. Rodgers Health Clinic to offer 1,500 COVID vaccinations to Missouri residents who are 18 years of age or older. “We’re hoping that the three locations we’ve set up for April will inspire more people of color in our community to sign up and get their shot,” said Yvette Richards, Director of Community Connections SJUMC. Elsberry UMC has partnered with a local pharmacy to provide 800 shots in their community, with the second round coming soon. Share your church’s story at [link removed] [link removed].
