Dear Friend --

Our Port just posted its busiest month and second-busiest quarter ever in its 110-year history, breaking the record for container traffic at a time that is typically the slowest month for trade. This is amazing news, and I applaud our port's outstanding work and the extraordinary dedication of our dock workers, truck drivers, and port workers who went to work every day to keep our port running.

Trade is up 62.3% and imports rose 74% compared to last March. That’s a testament to the continued reliability and efficiency of the Port of Long Beach.

Our port is a massive economic engine for the region. It continues to support more than 51,000 jobs locally and 575,000 jobs in the region. We are also the greenest port in the country – proof that both achievements are attainable concurrently, and we should be proud of that.

Long Beach is on the leading edge of recovery from COVID-19, and once we are past the pandemic, and travel is safe again, I look forward to visiting our trade partners to sign more agreements that will benefit our state and nation.

As one of the world’s premier seaports with 175 shipping lines connecting Long Beach to 217 seaports around the world, the Port handles over $200 billion in trade annually. The Port’s strength is going to be a key factor in driving our recovery locally, and we will ensure it remains a leader in protecting the environment and promoting sustainable trade.

Thank you,

Mayor Robert Garcia
