Friends,

As a parent, veteran, gun-owner, hunter, and member of a community that's been impacted by gun violence many times, I know that weapons of war don't belong in our communities.

Preventing gun violence has always been one of my top priorities. It's one of the reasons I ran for Congress. I saw families and communities torn apart by gun violence and too many politicians doing nothing about it.

That's why, earlier this year, I helped pass legislation in the House to require universal background checks and close the Charleston Loophole -- two measures that will save lives. Now, once again, we're waiting on the Senate to act.

Thankfully, President Biden has shown his willingness to lead. Last week, he announced common-sense measures to make our communities safer. His series of executive actions directed at the gun violence epidemic will:

- Treat "ghost guns," untraceable weapons without serial numbers that can be constructed from kits, as firearms;
- Create a reporting system to flag individuals who should not own firearms;
- Crackdown on weapons converters;
- Oversee an investigation into firearms trafficking across state lines.

These actions are encouraging but are only one step toward building safer communities. The time to act is now, and I'm asking you to join me in calling on the Senate to get to work.

It's up to the Senate to follow the example set by the House and the Biden administration to prevent gun violence from traumatizing any more communities. Add your name to demand the Senate take action on this critical issue.
