Hi John --
Deb Haaland is a month into her position as Secretary of the Interior, and she has a huge challenge ahead of her: managing public lands that right-wing militias have attempted to occupy for years now.
The federal government hesitated to confront these armed extremist militiamen in the past, but with today's rising far-right movement they're a growing threat. One of them, a rancher named Cliven Bundy, has already warned that he and his allies will “walk towards guns” if the new administration attempts to collect long-overdue fees from them.
Armed militiamen like Bundy have illegally occupied federal land for years, but the GOP has only provided excuses for these right-wing extremists. Bundy posted praise of the violent mob that attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6 on Facebook. And Cliven's son Ammon Bundy was arrested twice last summer for leading maskless protestors to object to Idaho's stay at home orders and refusing repeatedly to leave Idaho state government buildings. We're so glad we finally have a Secretary of the Interior who will stand up to this behavior, but we know it will make Haaland a target for these extremists.
Our team at ASPIRE is working hard to support and defend women of color leaders like Haaland, and we're so glad to have supporters like you who helped propel Haaland through the confirmation process.
But it's become increasingly difficult to keep up our work as more and more extremists are emboldened by the GOP's racist, white nationalist rhetoric. Our workload keeps growing while our fundraising keeps falling, and if we don't raise $750 by the end of the day, we might have to abandon some of our work.
John, will you give $10, $25, or whatever you're able to spare right now to help us support and defend women of color leaders like Haaland who are leading the fight against white nationalism and extremism in our country? >> [link removed]
