Axios: “1 in 2 states at risk of ‘rigged maps’”

John -- A brand-new Gerrymandering Threat Index from RepresentUs finds that HALF of all states are at ‘extreme’ risk of map manipulation in 2021-22, including SIX of our battleground states.

Researchers examined five questions about the map-drawing process in each state, including whether politicians from one party control the process, whether they can draw maps in secret, and whether rigged maps are hard to challenge in court. In some states, like Texas and Georgia, the answer is yes on all five questions.

It's not all bad news: Some states where our work helped to create nonpartisan redistricting commissions and elect Democratic officials, like Colorado and Michigan, are at minimal risk for gerrymandering! We have this incredible grassroots community to thank for that.

But there are a lot of states that could be in deep trouble if we don't fight as hard as we can to ensure a fair, transparent map-drawing process with public participation. John, can you help us fight to prevent gerrymandering in states across the country?
