As we begin another week of the 2021 legislative session, I want to provide you a brief overview of the important things that happened last week.

But first, a reminder that COVID-19 vaccines are available to all Floridians aged 18 and over. To date, more than 7 million Florida residents have been vaccinated, and you can find a vaccination site near you by visiting floridahealth.gov.

On Wednesday, we passed our general budget for the fiscal year 2021-2022 in the Florida House of Representatives. There are some solid provisions in the budget; however, I know a Democratic Majority would have done significantly more to support Florida's working families. Click here to read my thoughts on what we must improve going forward.

During the debate, I raised concerns about the State Court System not receiving adequate funding to clear a backlog of cases due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The right to a fair and speedy trial is Constitutionally guaranteed, and I will be closely monitoring this situation. Watch my remarks:

Some exciting news! HB 1097, my bill that supports veterans' healthcare by addressing the severe shortage of physicians at VA hospitals, has been scheduled for a floor vote. Help get this excellent bill across the finish line by contacting your representative and telling them to support our veterans by voting YES on HB 1097.

Thank you for your advocacy! It's making a huge difference.

Many of the bills I've co-sponsored are also receiving floor votes this week, including:

✅ HM 71, Recognizing Veteran Suicide and Urging Congress to Fund Suicide Prevention Efforts

✅ HB 117, Improving Resource Information for Individuals with Disabilities

✅ HB 149, Protecting Students with Disabilities from Excessive Discipline

✅ HB 231, Expanding Veterans and Military Families access to Behavioral and Mental Healthcare

✅ HB 435, Strengthening Florida's Veterans Employment and Training Programs

We've crossed the halfway point of the 2021 legislative session, but there is a lot more work to do! Thank you for your continued support and for taking the time to read my weekly review.
