Our federal fossil fuel leasing program is rigged to benefit corporate polluters.
Urge the Department of Interior to fix this broken system: [link removed]

Dear Friend,
The federal government leases vast swathes of public lands and waters to private corporations to drill for oil and gas and to mine for coal. As a result, nearly 25% of climate-cooking emissions from the United States come from fossil fuels pumped or mined from lands and waters that belong to the public.
It doesn’t have to be this way. The Biden administration has committed to tackling the climate crisis, and we need to help turn these words into action.
During his first week in office, President Biden took two crucial steps in charting a new path forward. One move protects most of the Arctic Ocean and some important Atlantic Ocean canyons from drilling; the other puts a pause on new oil and gas leasing across all public lands and waters.
Now, the Biden administration is taking the next step and conducting a comprehensive review of the nation’s federal fossil fuel program — and they are asking for your input.
This will be the first time the government has ever done a comprehensive review of the climate and other environmental impacts from oil and gas development on federal lands and waters. Doing so is essential to begin to reform the federal fossil fuel program.
We need to turn our public lands system from being part of the climate problem into being part of the solution. We need advocates like you to let the Biden administration know that it’s time our public lands, coasts, and waters benefit people and local communities, not just corporate polluters.
Sincerely,
Drew Caputo
