Friend,

Last week, we received great news. President Biden announced several executive actions to save lives and move our nation closer to implementing commonsense gun reforms. Gun violence is on the rise across the country, tearing apart communities and ruining lives, and Congress has dragged its feet for too long. That’s why President Biden stepped up.

I’m particularly pleased that President Biden is closing the ghost gun loophole, which allows the purchase of privately made firearms that lack serial numbers, making them untraceable by law enforcement. They are often sold in kits without a background check and can easily be assembled into ghost guns. Last month, I called on Attorney General Merrick Garland to close this loophole – and I’m grateful that the administration listened.

I keep thinking of Congresswoman Lucy McBath, who lost her son Jordan in 2012 to gun violence. Congresswoman McBath has been a fearless advocate for gun safety ever since – and last week, she was at the White House when President Biden announced these executive actions. It’s because of the advocacy of those who have lost loved ones to gun violence that this progress was possible.

As the People’s Lawyer, I’m going to continue working with the Biden administration, gun safety advocates, and survivors to achieve comprehensive, commonsense gun safety reform and invest in violence prevention programs. President Biden made significant progress last week, but there is much more work to be done to save lives in our communities. Right now.

Thanks for all you do,
Maura
