Let's mourn, but mainly celebrate the incredible life of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His character, what he achieved and the legacy is absolutely immeasurable. His contribution to the United Kingdom was massive. Almost all of us have only ever known life with Prince Philip as a core part of the Royal Family, a core part of the furniture of the United Kingdom

He was brave, decorated for valour in World War II, dutiful to The Queen, always there with support and advice, just a step behind. Loyal and devoted to his family through the good times, the bad and the tough times that every family has. His public service and hard work was immense. He was patron of hundreds and hundreds of charities across the country, always there enthusing, motivating, making people laugh, encouraging.

He was a doer, a man of action, and I love that about him. He was not a man of waffle. His razor-sharp wit and cheeky sense of humour just occasionally got him into a little diplomatic hot water. But his legacy is massive, his awareness of the need to protect the environment and for conservation. He was one of the first to recognise that and highlight it.

But his biggest legacy, of course, The Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme that helped millions of young people across over a hundred countries around the world. And our greatest tribute to Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, is to continue this. Make it thrive to help millions more young people do better and better.

We thank you, Prince Philip. A true legend. A true hero. Never forgotten.
