Dear John,
My commitment to you is to be present in the district regularly, sharing in your successes and hearing your concerns.
Over the past few weeks, I have been able to spend time with law enforcement officers, small business owners, educators, health care providers, manufacturers, champions for life, and many, many more. I have been in every corner of the district, from Mecklenburg to Franklin, and from Fauquier to Pittsylvania. And I can tell you this, Virginians are ready for the politicians in Washington, and in Richmond for that matter, to stop pandering to the liberal special interests and to start fighting for the principles that made this nation so great.
As I visit with the great people of the Fifth District, I am continuing to fight for our principles in Congress.
* As part of my ongoing commitment to Back the Blue, I introduced a bill last week to give our law enforcement access to critical public safety equipment at an affordable price. Our local law enforcement should have access to military surplus equipment needed to help them combat human trafficking and provide assistance and security during natural disasters. The Protect Our Police Act is endorsed by the major law enforcement groups across Virginia.
* I added my name to a letter to President Biden opposing the creation of vaccine passports. This is a dangerous threat to our liberty and our privacy, and it is the kind of thing that belongs in Communist China NOT the United States of America.
* While I oppose the return of earmarks in the federal appropriations process, I am adding my name to the efforts to ensure every possible pro-life requirement rides along with the annual spending bills. I joined two letters in the past week to hold fast to the principle that no American should ever see their tax dollars used to pay for abortions.
As I prepare to return to Washington for another voting session next week, there are other pressing concerns we need to address.
* The human crisis at our border caused by President Biden's wrongheaded reversal of Trump Administration policies. A record number of illegal immigrants, especially children, are crossing our borders. While the overwhelmed facilities along the border are a massive concern, so is the fact that thousands of women and children are being abused along the journey. Many are being sexually trafficked and may not even know it. Meanwhile, Mexican drug cartels are making millions of dollars a day just from the fees they charge to move humans across the border, in addition to illegal drugs.
* President Biden is announcing a series of executive actions aimed at taking away the Second Amendment rights of law abiding citizens. I continue to believe that the Second Amendment is the right that secures every other Constitutional right. Just as I opposed Speaker Pelosi's recent attempts to create a backdoor national gun registry, I will oppose the Biden Administration any time they attempt to restrict the Second Amendment.
* And, President Biden just announced another $2 trillion spending bill. This one is being called an "infrastructure" bill, but a majority of the proposed spending has little to do with roads and bridges. And many Democrats in the House, led by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, think the price tag should be as much as FIVE times higher. We simply cannot continue to spend, borrow and print money at this rate in the name of COVID, particularly when every forecast predicts that our economy will be going strong later this year without another massive influx of federal spending. Adding this debt, with no plans to ever pay it back, is nothing more than another round of immoral generational theft from our kids and grandkids.
As you can see, there is much work to be done. You have my word that I will continue to fight for our shared values and principles each and every day as your representative.
