Republican state lawmakers just enacted one of the most extreme, most restrictive voter suppression laws in the country - a law that analysts at The New York Times say directly targets the Black voters and other voters of color who made our historic Democratic victories possible.

There's no way around it: It's Jim Crow in new clothes.

This new law is a desperate attempt by the GOP to cling to power and hijack our democracy. It restricts absentee voting by introducing harsh voter ID requirements, gives state-level officials the power to intervene in local elections and even bans people from handing out food or water in long poll lines.

This GOP-led assault on our democracy is shameful, and we must fight back with everything we've got. That's why I'm calling on 25,000 grassroots folks to sign my petition condemning GOP attacks on our voting rights - and I'm counting on you to be one of them: Will you add your name now to defend our democracy and condemn GOP attacks on our voting rights?

Georgia's new law is just the tip of the iceberg: This year alone, Republican lawmakers have introduced over 350 new voter suppression bills in 47 states, all intended to silence voters and prevent Democrats from winning elections.

These new measures don't do anything to make our democracy stronger, fairer or more just. What they do is keep eligible Americans - particularly voters of color - from fully participating in our democracy, and they let politicians pick their voters, instead of the other way around.

We're witnessing a massive and unabashed assault on voting rights and voter access, unlike anything we've seen since the Jim Crow era - and I need your urgent help to fight back. But my petition closes at midnight tonight, and I'm still missing your name.
