I believe hard-working, middle class families shouldn’t be punished for pursuing the American Dream. But that’s exactly what the last administration’s cap on State and Local Tax (SALT) deductions did in 2017.

They claimed that their massive bill would help middle class Americans, but almost all the tax cuts went to the the Red States severely limited what homeowners could deduct on their federal taxes here in the Blue States. Much to my chagrin, New Jersey has some of the highest state and property taxes in the country.

But there’s a solution: the American Jobs Plan offers a chance to build a fairer economy for everyone. If we can get a repeal of the SALT cap included, we’ll ensure that people aren’t punished for building a better life. We can actually get tax cuts to middle class families here in Jersey.

So will you stand with me by adding your name? This bill is moving quickly through the House, so we need to act now. [[link removed]]

I came to Congress to solve problems — and right now, homeowners in NJ-5 have a big problem. With an economy still in recovery, a pandemic still causing havoc in our district, and people of New Jersey desperately in need of tax relief, I know it’s time to act.

The good news is that the solution is right in front of us. It’ll put money back into the pockets of Americans, repeal an outdated and spiteful rule, and demonstrate that the government serves the people, not the other way around.

I’m ready to lead on this issue — but I need your help. Let’s prove that the SALT cap must be repealed:
