People For Member, President Biden's nominee for assistant attorney general for civil rights, Kristen Clarke, has her first nomination hearing this Wednesday! But the Far Right knows how effective Clarke will be at championing Americans’ civil rights and voting rights at the DOJ, so they’re ready to pull out all the stops to try to sink her nomination. Let's make #HerFightOurFight! Thanks for all that you do, Zach ---- [previous message] ---- People For Member, Ever since President Biden nominated Kristen Clarke for assistant attorney general for civil rights, the Far Right has launched a full-blown propaganda campaign to thwart her confirmation. Advancing false and inflammatory narratives, the Right has proven they will stop at nothing to prevent Clarke from getting confirmed. But our voices can and must be stronger to defend Kristen Clarke’s nomination – we must make #HerFightOurFight. The allegations made by the Far Right are so baseless and untrue that even moderate Republicans are denouncing the attacks – but that hasn’t stopped the Right from pushing them out. Even Tucker Carlson of Fox News has dedicated at least FIVE segments on his show to broadcasting the lies.[1, 2] But the truth is, Kristen Clarke is exactly the type of person we want in the position she has been nominated to fill. The child of Jamaican immigrants, Kristen Clarke studied at Harvard and Columbia Law School before spending her entire career fighting for civil rights and racial justice. After graduating law school, Clarke joined the prestigious Honors Program at the U.S. Department of Justice and served for six years in the Civil Rights Division – the very office she has been nominated to lead. A champion of voting rights, supporter of crime victims, defender against hate and violent extremism, and advocate of civil rights for all, Kristen Clarke’s career and lived experiences make her an exemplary candidate for the position she is nominated for and we must fight back in support of her confirmation to dispel these false attacks against her. A principle that has guided Kristen Clarke’s career is to “open doors that shouldn’t have been locked in the first place.”[3] By fighting for systemic change to challenge injustices and ensure equity for all Americans, Kristen Clarke will fight to dismantle barriers and to assure the laws protecting our rights are applied fairly and without reservation. Join us now to lend a hand in opening a door the Far Right is all too eager to slam shut on Kristen Clarke. Join us in making #HerFightOurFight. Urge the Senate to confirm Clarke! >> In solidarity, Zach, People For the American Way
