We won’t be able to fully pull ourselves out of this pandemic as long as there are still people within the federal government who are implementing Donald Trump’s agenda.

Right now, nearly three months into Joe Biden’s presidency, Trump’s commissioner and deputy commissioner of the Social Security Administration remain in place.

SSA Commissioner Saul and Deputy Commissioner Black have put illegal pressure on SSA judges to deny disability claims.¹ They’ve attempted to make it more difficult, through rule changes, for people to qualify for and stay on Social Security disability benefits.² And, Andrew Saul required SSA workers to come in to work in the midst of the pandemic even as he seemingly took three months off following the November election.³

Now, we have momentum on our side to fire Andrew Saul and David Black. The U.S. House and Senate Social Security subcommittee chairs, Rep. John Larson (D-CT) and Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), have called for Saul and Black to be fired. And, in a virtually unprecedented move, SSA staff unions have called for Saul and Black’s removal.⁴
