WIIS Member Publication Highlight:
A Woman's Place: US Counterterrorism Since 9/11
by Joana Cook

The book highlights how flawed stereotypes in relation to women and security prevail and we have to fundamentally rethink how women are considered as agents, partners and targets in all aspects of security, but particularly those relating to countering terrorism. While focused on the case of the US, it is shaped in terms of lessons applicable to audiences well beyond this border to ensure women are considered, engaged and supported more effectively in international security. It focuses on international U.S. counterterrorism efforts in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen.
