Once again, Mitch McConnell can’t make up his mind. Just moments after berating corporations for speaking out against the voter suppression bills recently passed in Georgia, Mitch McConnell warned them to “stay out of politics,” only to backtrack just seconds later by saying he’d gladly continue accepting their campaign donations.
The hypocrisy is astounding – but not surprising. As McConnell and others on the Far Right decry major corporations for rightfully objecting to voter suppression laws, they still eagerly seek out corporate support to fund their campaigns.
The time to eliminate corporate influence from our government is NOW – and it starts with overturning the disastrous Citizens United ruling that has allowed the unrestrained flow of money from corporate and ultra-wealthy special interests to have an outsized influence on our government.
Despite McConnell’s threats, he doesn’t really want corporations to get out of politics – after all, where else would he collect millions in campaign contributions to elect even more far-right members of Congress?
If we continue putting pressure on Congress to take action that would overturn Citizens United, we can finally begin strengthening our democracy by reining in the corrupting influence of Big Money and putting the power in our democracy where it truly belongs: with We the People.
