Hi John,
Last week I emailed you to tell you that Boris Johnson had signed off new oil and gas licences. Since then thousands of us have been speaking out. Thousands of us are uniting to say: invest in green energy and jobs instead.
But there’s a lot going on and if we’re going to get the government to roll back their plans, we need to show him what they're up against - fast. Will you please sign the petition now?

Here's last week's email if you missed it...

Hi John,
Last week something embarrassing happened - as the UK prepares to host crucial global climate talks (COP26), our government signed off new oil and gas licences in the North Sea. I hate to write to you with bad news at already troubling times - but we do have a plan to make the future better, together.
Boris Johnson and his business and energy ministers are hoping people across the UK won’t have their eyes on what they’re up to in the North Sea right now. But millions of us want to build a better country where all of us are protected and able to get good, green jobs.
The government has made many u-turns in the face of public pressure in the last year - to name two: free school meals and school exams. It’s time to show them they can make another one. Will you sign the petition calling on the government not to green light oil and gas and invest in renewables instead?

Last week we went to the Department of Business Energy and Industrial Strategy and thousands of you flooded the Energy Minister’s Twitter feed with a clear message about oil and gas. But the government is looking the other way and hoping we quieten down. Well, we never will.
1.7 million people are unemployed in this country and many of us who are employed are in casual, insecure and low-paid work. But as our country recovers from a pandemic and the resulting economic crisis - investing in the good, green, well-paying jobs we deserve can make sure our country thrives. Whether you are an oil worker in Aberdeen or an office-worker in Brighton - we all deserve a secure future. Will you say yes to green jobs and no to new oil and gas?

The government has seen young people on the streets striking, they've seen direct action across the UK and they know public opinion on climate change is not the same as it was decades ago. Politicians are being forced to move with the times by people like us - but for the sake of the climate we need to make them move faster.
Using the oil and gas reserves we have already would mean breaching Paris climate goals. We can't allow the government to go looking for more. Please add your name to the petition now, it's just the start - we've got a few tricks up our sleeves and we'll keep you up to date with the campaign as we go.
