Hi friend - it's Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro.

I have some great news from the Keystone State on an issue that's vitally important to me: gun violence prevention. I just reached an historic agreement with Pennsylvania's largest gun show promoter to halt the sale of ALL unregulated "ghost gun" kits - the first pledge of its kind.

These do-it-yourself gun kits allow buyers to skirt background checks and assemble an unserialized, untraceable firearm themselves. These firearms have become the weapon of choice for criminals and a real driver in the gun violence epidemic.

But we're not stopping at one agreement. Look at this news from yesterday:

After the urging of 18 Democratic AGs, led by AG Shapiro, President Biden announced an executive action targeting the sale of ghost guns nationally.

With the Administration's backing, we're much better positioned to keep these weapons away from those who are legally barred from owning a firearm. But we have to do more: we must end the pipeline of these underground "ghost guns" into the neighborhoods where our families work, live, and play.

Before our agreement, these kits flowed freely through major gun shows, leading to 10,000 "ghost guns" being recovered in 2019 alone. To tell the truth, I get angry every time I see that number - because we can't build a safer future with this many unaccountable weapons circulating nationally.

We don't have to accept gun violence as our country's "normal." To build real change, we have to unite around common-sense solutions like this, that put public safety first and promote a standard of responsible gun ownership.

And it's especially important that private sellers and public officials act now. In Philadelphia, we're anticipating an influx of "ghost guns" this year that tops the 2020 count by three to four times.

It's my job to protect the people of Pennsylvania from threats like this, and Dem AGs are using every tool we have to eliminate the deadly specter of gun violence from our communities.
