Health care is a fundamental human right. Full stop. No one should have to struggle to make ends meet or go bankrupt while fighting for their lives — not in a pandemic, not ever.
We must transform our health care system to center dignity and humanity and guarantee everyone in our communities access to the care they need to weather public health crises like the COVID-19 pandemic and live healthy lives.
That’s why Ayanna proudly joined Rep. Pramila Jayapal and Rep. Debbie Dingell to introduce the Medicare for All Act of 2021.
Our communities need Medicare for All. Under our current for-profit system, low-income communities, communities of color, immigrants, and others continue to experience significant barriers to care and are disproportionately burdened by negative health outcomes. Meanwhile, costs for everyone continue to climb unsustainably. The COVID-19 crisis has made these entrenched disparities and inequities clearer than ever.
We cannot continue to play politics with people’s lives. The good news is that more than half of the House Democratic caucus supports Medicare for All — but we need as many folx as possible to join our fight.
