John,

Redistricting is here, which means our team is working in 15 battleground states to make sure Republicans can't manipulate the maps. Below is an update from a few of the states -- but before you read it, can you make a quick donation to support our work nationwide?

COLORADO
The NDRC is proud to have played a role in enacting Colorado's independent redistricting commission, the body that can ensure Coloradans get fair maps for the next decade. But implementation has not been without challenges. When the congressional commission chair posted election conspiracy theories and racist language online, we helped to win a successful effort to remove him from chairmanship. This was a victory, but it will take resources to do more of this kind of accountability work.

TEXAS
Texas, a state that could gain three U.S. House seats during redistricting, is at high risk of racially discriminatory gerrymandering. The GOP has full control of the process, and state Republican Party chair Allen West has said map drawers must “not concern themselves with fairness.” And A.G. Holder recently described the slew of anti-voting bills moving through their legislature as a “multi-pronged war on democracy.” In this context, it's especially important that advocates demand a transparent redistricting -- which we are working to achieve.

GEORGIA
Georgia has been in the news lately for its discriminatory voting restrictions, but that's not the only danger in the Peach State. Georgia is heavily gerrymandered -- even though the state went blue in the presidential and Senate contests, the state Senate is 61 percent Republican and only 39 percent Democrat. If we don't pay close attention at every point in the redistricting process, Republicans will take the opportunity to manipulate the maps again.

The bottom line is that there's a huge amount of work left to do, and with the Census Bureau delayed in getting data to the states, the danger of manipulated maps is even greater. We appreciate everything you can do to support our fight for fairness. Will you pitch in today to help us win fair maps in every one of our battleground states and across the country?

A.G. Holder: If the NDRC is successful in undoing manipulated maps, we will be able to achieve a system in which everyone's vote counts.

Since 2017, the NDRC has executed a comprehensive redistricting strategy that shifts the redistricting power, creating fair districts where Democrats can compete. Our victories have been made possible by our strong community of grassroots supporters.
