Essential workers deserve far more than praise for all of their hard work throughout the pandemic. That is why we are calling on Mayor Bowser to enact the DC Essential Workers Bill of Rights. The DC Essential Workers Bill of Rights would ensure that all essential workers receive long overdue protections and increased pay during the current public health emergency and during future emergencies. If enacted the DC Essential Worker Bill of Rights would ensure that all essential workers in DC have:

A right to 2 weeks of paid sick leave
A right to hazard pay of $3 per hour
A right to 5 days of paid bereavement leave
A right to expanded access to workers compensation for COVID-19 related health issues
A right to high quality employer provided PPE

Essential workers have shouldered far too much risk and sacrifice during the pandemic. DC just received 2.5 billion in federal aid and has a sizeable rainy day fund, it is time for Mayor Bowser to use these funds to ensure that essential workers get the pay and protection that they deserve.
