John,

Our community is no stranger to gun violence. Many of us know someone or have a loved one who was lost to gun violence. But despite what the gun lobby and extremist lawmakers claim, this violence that is tearing apart families and hurting our communities can be stopped.

The recent shootings in Georgia, Colorado, and Pennsylvania have propelled the gun violence epidemic back into the national conversation. And yesterday, President Joe Biden unveiled his first major steps to addressing gun violence in our country.

He's directing his administration to tighten restrictions on "ghost guns" -- untraceable weapons that lack serial numbers and can be constructed from parts purchased online. This is a necessary step to combat gun violence, but we have to do more.

When President Biden ran for office, he pledged to reinstate an assault weapons ban and close background check loopholes on his first day in office. Will you join me in calling on President Biden to fulfill his promises to the American people and immediately address gun violence?

In the first months of his administration, President Biden has been focusing on tackling the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, putting out the fires left by the past administration, and rebuilding America's economy from the ground up. Now, it's time to move forward with other important initiatives -- including tackling the gun violence epidemic head-on.

The Democratic House majority has already passed a universal background checks bill on to the Senate -- a measure that 97 percent of Americans support. We need to keep the momentum going, and that's why I am calling on President Biden to take bigger and bolder action when it comes to gun violence.

We deserve to live in a country where we feel safe in our own community. Please join me in urging President Biden to fulfill his promise of reinstating an assault weapons ban and closing background check loopholes.
